Abstract

315,938. Mackley, A. H., and Slade, L. W. May 9, 1928. Supplying measuring devices.-A lighting system particularly for motor vehicles comprises a battery a with a lamp l<1> in parallel, which may be inserted in the lighting circuit or removed therefrom without interference with other lights. A resistance is automatically substituted for the removed accumulator and lamp. The accumulator carries a socket element S with contact members 5, 6 the former making a spring fit with a sliding contact member 4 on a fixed relay element P connected with the lighting system and the latter engaging a central contact member 1. The sliding contact 4 when the coupling elements are engaged, in addition to putting the accumulator in series in the lighting circuit connects together concentric contact members 2, 3 between which a resistance r is connected, but upon separation of the elements the member 4 connects contacts 1, 2 completing the lighting circuit through the resistance r.
