Working-fluid supply.-In a combustion turbine using solid fuel such as coal dust with the addition of a separate priming medium such as gas or oil, the coal dust is introduced into the combustion chamber before the priming medium. The admission of combustion air may take place during the whole, period of admission of coal dust and of priming medium. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which the admission valves are housed in a casing u formed integral with the combustion chamber h. The coal dust is supplied at a and passes through a hollow valve stem c past a valve seat e<11> into the combustion chamber. The combustion air is supplied from a duct n, and is controlled by a valve l concentric with the valve c. The valves are operated intermittently by fluid pressure. Baffles p are provided as a protection against back-firing, and the priming fluid which facilitates ignition is fed into the air stream from a pipe s as it passes through the baffles. In a modification the priming medium is sprayed into the combustion chamber through a separate valve, and a spring- pressed non-return valve is arranged on the coaldust feed pipe.
