Abstract

111,924. Kopczewski, W. S. Dec. 22, 1916. Water-tube boilers.-The U-shaped combustion chamber 11 for a gas turbine 26 suitable for propelling aircraft &c. is surrounded by a coiled tube 20, supplied with water from a reservoir 22 by a pump 23 and so perforated that the holes are uncovered when the valve 15 is lifted from its seat on each explosion, and the burnt gases mix with steam from the coil 20 on their way to the turbine nozzles. A portion of the burnt gases is returned to the combustion chamber 11 through a port 27 and serves to cushion and ignite the incoming charge. The sparking-plug 14 is used for starting.
