301,079. Brun, G. J. P. J. J. Nov. 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 272,904, [Class 7 (i), Combustion-product &c. engines]. Stop-gear. - In a combustionproducer plant comprising a twostroke internal-combustion cylinder 1 and a compressor cylinder 3 secured together and reciprocating in sleeves 17, 18 in an outer casing 8, 9, the power piston 2 is integral with the compressor piston 4 and slides over a hollow piston rod 5. The space 29 in the rod 5 communicates with the compressor cylinder 3 and with the interior of the piston 2 through ports 30, 31 fitted with non-return valves, and the pressure within the piston 2 serves to return the piston at the end of its stroke. A Knife 68, Fig. 10, is pivoted on the cylinder unit and is normally held by a catch 69 having a weighted head 73 resting on a knife edge 71 secured to the cylinder. If the pressure within the piston 2 is excessive, the head 73 is tilted by inertia about the edge 71, releasing the catch 69 and allowing the knife 68 to drop and break a glass tube 74,. which communicates with an auxiliary air compressor supplying the charge to the combustion cylinder 2.
