Abstract
292,268. Jackson, L. Mellersh-, (Connersville Blower Co.). March 22, 1927. Toothed wheels.-The involute or cycloidal gearing-portions A, T, B of the flexible teeth of high speed gearing, of which three or more are adapted to contact simultaneously, are extended to form sub-roots A - - D, of which the side faces approximately form part of an equal strength parabola with vertex at the point M at the greatest distance from the wheel centre at which the line of contact L, L cuts the tooth axis. Straight sides AC, BD constitute a sufficiently close approximation to the parabolic form. The tooth profiles A, T, B may be extended almost to pointed form, the tops being rounded. to avoid scraping away the lubricant. Calculations are included for proportioning the teeth in such manner that the deflecion of each pair under normal load is sufficient to avoid complete unloading of the other pairs in action.
