Clamping matrices.-A device for centralizing short lines consists of a vertically movable slide i, which is connected to the vice jaws v by levers or by chains or other flexible members a passing over pulleys d, and attached to adjusting-screws b on the slide. The slide can be depressed against the action of a spring f by means of a lever e operated by hand or power, and then causes the jaws to approach each other to an equal extent, and to clamp the matrices between them. The jaws are restored to normal position by springs g. Specification 273,147 is referred to.
