Spindle-driving apparatus; stop-apparatus, non- automatic; driving-arrangements. - In the arrangement described in the parent Specification, wherein spinning spindles terminating a short distance below the neck rail are driven bv friction discs which are splined on a shaft and normally pressed by springs embracing their bosses to effect the driving contact and are disconnected by hand-operated means, the springs 9 are arranged to engage levers 10 mounted on swivel pins 11 and carrying pulleys 12 which engage the friction discs 7 and press them against the pulleys 4 on the spindles. The pins 11 are turned to withdraw the pulleys 12 to allow the discs to slide along the shaft in order to stop the spindles by means of cams 16 on foot levers 14. The gear ratio of the discs and pulleys is 5 : 1 instead of 2¢ : 1 as formerly. The disc-shaft may be driven by a belt, and may be formed in sections so that a limited number of spindles are thrown out of gear when repairs are required. A shaft running the whole length of a row of frames may be arranged to drive the disc-shaft of each frame.
