Abstract

196,129. Barke, J. G., and Hardman, F. Feb. 9, 1922. Driving-arrangements; stop-apparatus, non- automatic; tin rollers.-Relates to a two-speed drive for spinning, doubling and like machines of the kind wherein three pulleys are employed of which one is the loose pulley and the other two drive the machine at a slow and quick speed respectively according to the stage of the building of the cop. In the arrangement shown in plan in Fig. 2, chain wheels. C', D<1> are carried by pulleys C, D, of which C is fast on the tin roller shaft A and D is loose on the boss of C, and are connected by chains to wheels E, F, of equal diameter, on a shaft H geared with the second tin roller shaft J. When the strap is on the pulley C the machine is driven through the tin roller wheel G, and the shaft J is driven by the chain wheel C<1> and shaft H. When the cop bottom is formed the strap is moved automatically or by hand on to the pulley D and the shaft H is driven at a higher speed through the larger wheel D<1> and drives the shaft J, as before, and the shaft A through the wheel C<1>. The shaft H is carried in an adjustable swivel bracket M, mounted on the pedestal of the shaft J, or, in machines having only one tin roller, on the frame of the machine. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the pulleys are mounted on a shaft A, carried in a swivel bracket G and geared with the tin roller shaft P, and the chain wheels J, K are loosely mounted on the other tin roller shaft L and are combined with a roller or other clutch M which engages the tin roller wheel R. Automatic means for operating the belt-fork is shown in Fig. 7, wherein, after the cop bottom is formed, an adjustable peg P<1> on the bowl that carries the nose peg operates a lever O and allows a spring M to operate the belt-fork and move the belt on to the pulley D. The spring M is connected to a bowl on a shaft H, which carries a link K connected with a lever G on the strap-fork and a setting-on handle J. The strap is held on the loose pulley B by a shot-bolt F, which engages the lever G; when the shot-bolt is withdrawn the spring moves the parts into the position shown.
