Abstract

163,556. Rutherford, C., and Goldsbrough, R. B. March 26, 1920. Winch-actuated hoists with guided platforms. - A portable hoist for stacking goods is provided with means for pulling the goods on to or pushing them off the horizontal platform on which they are raised. The platform comprises a series of laths c' which are attached to a pair of endless chains q, Fig. 2, passed round sprockets o<1>, p' mounted in a frame c. A sprocket n<3> is keyed on the shaft of the sprocket o and is engaged by a chain n<2> which passes round a sprocket n<1> at the top of the guide b for the platform and round a sprocket n at the bottom of the guide b. Rollers n<1> are provided for guiding the chain to the sprocket n<3>. On the same shaft as the sprocket n is keyed a sprocket m<2>, which is connected by chain or other gearing to a bevel-wheel m, Fig. 8. The gear m engages a bevelgear e<2> on a shaft e passing through a hollow spindle d. On rotating the shaft e by a crank applied to its end, the conveyer is actuated. The spindle d is connected by toothed gearing to the winding drum g<2> for the rope l connected to the platform. The drum g<2> is actuated by a crank applied to either of the shafts d, f<1>, or by an electric motor. The drum g<2> is connected to the last gear of the actuating train by a clutch h which is released when the platform is to be lowered by moving the shaft g<1> to the left by the lever j. The speed of descent of the platform can be regulated by using the clutch members as a brake. The axle of the castor wheel a<1> is mounted in an eccentric which is turned to bring the castor frame a<6> into contact with the ground when goods are to be taken on or discharged. The conveyer c<1> may be replaced by a push-plate driven by screw-and-nut gearing from the chain n<2>. The push-plate has claws for engaging the goods.
