Abstract
281,062. Dorey, R. J. Oct. 23, 1926. Hollow cylinder and internal guided roller. - A mill for grinding paints &c. comprises an internallygrooved vertical cylinder and a rotating cylinder and a rotating piston fitted with a grooved split-ring, the piston being reciprocated in the cylinder against the action of a spring by means of cam mechanism actuated through bevel wheels from a hand-wheel or by power. As shown, Figs. 1 and 2, the cylinder 12 is secured by studs 11 and wing-nuts 13 to the tops of upright frames 1, 1A which are connected at the base by a bridge-piece 2 carrying an horizontal shaft 3 with a roller 4 which engages a disc cam 33 on a spindle 18 carrying at its upper end a conical piston 22. A groove 26 in the side of the piston receives a rubber band 27 and a. split-ring 28 of cast iron &c. having a pin 29 engaging a hole 30 in the groove. Tapered grooves 31 are provided in the face of the ring 28, and inclined grooves 14 in the cylinder. A hollow sleeve bevel-pinion 6 on the spindle 18 is supported in the upper troughshaped bearing-piece 5 and gears with a bevelwheel 37 on a shaft 36 provided with a handwheel 38. The feed-hopper 16 is secured to the top of the cylinder by studs 15 and wing-nuts 17. A pin 19 on the spindle 18 engages a slot 24 in the piston, and the locking-nut 25 is propellershaped to act as a mixer. Two detachable flat spring scrapers 7, 7A carried by the bridge-piece 5 remove the ground material from the base of the piston as it moves up and down in the cylinder,
