Abstract

278,420. Roadless Traction, Ltd., and Penn, O. S. July 3. 1926. Addition to 248,839. Endless-track vehicles. - Relates to endlesstracks of the girder type forming the invention of the parent Specification and in which the links a, Fig. 5, pivoted at f are provided with interlocking lugs e, h and c, g which limit movement about the pins f in one direction while lugs i, i limit movement in the other direction. The present invention comprises the following features :-(1) the extent to which the links can turn inwards is limited to such an extent that the links pass clear of the upper parts of the idler pulleys 1, Fig. 1, either by (a) providing eccentric freelymounted Ranges 5 which lift the links clear of the upper parts of the pulleys or (b) forming the lugs i, i so that the links in passing round the pulleys can only take a path having a radius greater than that of the pulleys, (2) the joints of each link allow lateral flexibility of the track, e.g. a ball-and-socket joint 13, Fig. 4, may be provided between each link in combination with the pin joint f, (3) the links are provided with rubber or like tread members 17, Fig. 7, which act as silencing and cushioning devices, their adjacent sides being in contact when the track is horizontal, while at other times projections 18 on the links pass through holes 19 and bear against the treads, and (4) driving teeth 12, Fig. 1, are formed on the links between the rollerbearing surfaces and are engaged by a driving sprocket 10 which takes no weight and is situated between the weight-carrying idler wheels 1.
