Abstract
215,106. Lamb, F. B. Feb. 5, 1923. Endless-track vehicles.-In endless tracks comprising shoes with central universal-joint connections and surfaces on each side of the central longitudinal axis forming paths for the load-supporting rollers, means are provided for limiting the movement of the shoes about that axis. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, rack shoes 10 with roller-supporting surfaces 105 106 and connected by links 11, are formed with lugs 101, 102 to limit rocking movement. As shown in section in Fig. 7, the shoes may be formed with interengaging pairs of lugs 101, 103 and 104. For the same purpose, interengaging lugs on adjacent shoes may be connected by pins passing loosely through a lug or lugs on one shoe. The surfaces 105, 106 may be flat, convergent, divergent, concave, or convex in transverse section. The shoes are bolted to links 11 which are formed with driving-teeth 13 and connected by pins 12 which pass through bushes 17 in split housings 16, the parts 16, 17 having interengaging spherical surfaces. In the modification shown in Figs. 13 and 14, belts 14 form the supporting-surfaces for the rollers, the shoes oeing formed in two parts 28, 29 connected by bolts 290. The lower element 28 is formed with lateral extensions 30 which are received between tread projections 140 on the belts. In this form, the shoes are connected by ball- and-socket joints 260, 27. In a modification of this form, the lower elements 28 may constitute smaller shoes alternating with the main track shoes. In a further modification, edge dr.ving- teeth are formed with lugs to limit the movement of the shoes. Guide flanges may be applied to one or both sides of the supporting-rollers. Specification 215,293 is referred to.
