Pliers.-A device for holding and guiding the ends of a wire clamp for telegraph, telephone &c. poles so that the straight end of the wire clamp may be passed through the eyed end without the necessity for holding the ends by hand consists of a pair of jaws 10 pivoted together at 17 and having grooves 11 forming a bore to receive the straight end 13 of the wire clamp, a third jaw 18 movable on a pivot 19 transverse to the pivot 17, and a spring plunger 30 mounted on the jaw 18 and movable through the eye 15 of the wire clamp to enter the bore formed by the grooves 11 in the jaws 10. The handles of the jaws 10 are held closed by a loop 25 engaging a spring 27. When the device is applied to the ends of the wire clamp a spring 31 in a recess 37 in the jaw 18 holds the plunger 30 in position projecting through the eye 15, as shown in Fig. 4, whilst the jaw 18 is held against the other jaws by a spring 20. The ends of the clamp are pulled together by means of a vice, during which operation the end 13 bears against the end of the plunger 30 and is guided through the eye as the plunger is forced back; the end of the clamp is then secured by bending over or otherwise.
