Abstract
268,959. Lane, H., and Mellor, W. April 6, 1926. Carbonizing rags and fabrics.-In a process for carbonizing rags or the like for the removal of cotton or other vegetable fibres, and silk, the rags are first dried in hot air and then subjected to gasified or vaponized nitric acid obtained by feeding the nitric acid on to a hot plate of the heating box. After carbonizing, the rags are shaken to free them from the dust resulting from the acid treatment or, where subsequent dyeing is to be done, they may be washed or soaked in water for neutralization purpose.
