Pneumatic separating. - In separating- machines of the type in whicli the material is projected from a rotary distributing disc into an upwardly directed current of air which carries off the lighter particles and deposits them in suitable receptacles, the distributing device is constructed to act also as a comminuting or grinding machine and is disposed in the inner of two concentric chambers through which the current of air circulates. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the grinding and distributing device comprises a rotary disc 3 and a stationary disc 5 with pins 4, 6. The stationary disc 5 is secured to a rigid tubular member 7, either cast or formed of wrought iron plates, which also serves as a charging member and which is secured to strong beams 9. Bearings for the shaft 2 of the rotary disc are provided near the lower end of the member 7 and in a plate 11 secured to the beams 9 and having openings 10. An outer and inner casing a, b form two chambers d, c through which a circulating current of air is moved by a fan e carried by the disc 3. The air passes upwardly and through the comminuted material in the inner chamber, carrying off the light particles which are deposited in the outer chamber. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the lower disc 5<1> is stationary, being carried by rigid supporting arms 15, and providing a foot-step bearing for the shaft 2 to which is secured the disc 3<1>. The fan b<1> is carried at the upper end of a funnel member 13, and a separate charging funnel 7' is provided.
