255,566. Hell, J. May 1, 1925. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Treatment preliminary to tanning.-Hides or skins, prior to tanning, are treated with sulphitecellulose waste liquors or their products to steep and soften the hides. The plumping of the hides may be influenced by the addition of salts. The skins are rinsed in water before and after the process. Other preliminary processes such as de-liming or pickling may be carried out in the presence of sulphite-cellulose liquors with the addition of acids, especially organic acids.
