Abstract
308,969. Paisseau, J. April 2, 1928, [Convention date]. Pigments.-In a process for the manufacture of Pearl-essence from natatory bladders, etc., the bladders are treated in an acid medium, such as a 1-5 per cent solution of organic or inorganic acid such as formic or tartaric acid, which preserves and softens the tissues, and the pearl essence is then extracted by treating the bladders with an acid medium containing a detersive such as saponine. The acid preservative bath may include a neutral salt such as sodium chloride to modifv its action. The acid detersive bath may also include a proteolytic or lipolytic ferment which will act in acid medium, such as pepsin. In an example, an acid detersive bath comprises 10 cc. of acid, 50 grams of saponine. 5 grams of pepsin and 1,000 cc. of water. The detersive bath is allowed to operate at 30-60 C., with stirring, and the pearl essence removed by settling, centrifuging &c.
