Abstract
255,170. Barrett, B. E. April 24, 1925. Vibrationdampers adapted to resist vertical and lateral oscillations of a vehicle body comprise two members in frictional contact with one another but otherwise unconnected. In the construction shown in the Figure, a transverse member or plate 4 connected to the axle 11 is movable between two members or plates 1 carried by the frame 2 and adapted to engage frictionally with the member 4. One of the damping members may be flexible and may be flexibly mounted as, for instance, by flexible strips 10. The intermediate member 4 may comprise two strips tending to separate and to engage the outer members 1. The intermediate member may include a flexible casing kept in contact with the outer members by fluid pressure, the pressure being capable of variation from the driver's seat. Three or more outer members and a corresponding number of inner members may be employed.
