Fillers; varnishes.- Coating-compositions, for use in priming are prepared by adding aluminium hydroxide to a mixture of resin, such as resin, and drying oil, such as linseed oil, or of resin and a varnish containing drying oil such as wood oil hydroxide to a mixture of a resin, such as rosin, soap. The mixture is warmed and thinned down with a solvent such as turpentine, with or without a drier, such as lead-manganese drier. The aluminium hydroxide may be replaced by aluminium salts and an alkaline agent which forms the hydroxide. In a modification, aluminium hydroxide is added to a resinic or fatty acid in such amounts as to form a basic aluminium soap, which is then mixed with drying oil or a varnish containing drying oil, and resultant mass thinned down as before.
