Abstract
238,710. Fraser, G., Fraser, N., and Fraser, J. Sept. 5, 1924. Stop - apparatus, non - a u t o m a t i c ; delivery, stopping.-A pedal lever 8, when operated to stop the spindle of a spinning-frame or like machine, is adapted to operate mechanism by means of a lever 10 and a link 14, whereby the roving is broken immediately above the lower pair of drawing - rollers. The spindle-driving gear may comprise apparatus such as described in Specifications 179,426, 214,054, and 216,796, wherein the spindle is frictionally driven by a disc 3 on a shaft at right angles thereto and is pivotally mounted on a rod 4 parallel to itself so as to be bodily movable towards and from the disc, or is arranged to be disengaged from the disc by other means. A lever 5 is rigidly secured to the shaft and is normally pressed by a hinged weight 6, which, when the pedal 8 is operated, is raised by the lever 10 and the pressure of the spindle wharl 2 against the disc is relieved. The rovestopping mechanism comprises a lever 15 provided with a pin 18 and pivoted on a pivoted bracket 20 which carries the pressing-roller 24 and a pin 19, so that when the pedal 8 is operated the link 14 rocks the lever 15 and causes the roving to be nipped between the pins 18, 19 and thereafter moves the bracket 20 against the action of the weight-lever 2& and removes the roller 24 from the feed-roller 25. The pedal acts as a toggle to maintain the spindle wharl and the roller 24 disengaged. The roving is broken by the continued rotation of the drawing rollers 31, 32.
