Abstract
Acidyloxynaphthalene - 1 : 2-diazo-oxide-4-sulphonic acids are obtained by treating 6- or 7-oxynaphthalene-1 : 2-diazo-oxide-4-sulphonic acid with acid anhydrides or acid chlorides. Examples are given of the preparation of the p-toluene-sulphonic and benzoic esters of the 7-oxy compound. The parent diazo-oxides are obtained by treating a 1-amino-2 : 6- or -2 : 7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid, or a derivative thereof, with nitrite in presence of a metal salt. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the preparation of the acetyl-6-oxy compound and the p-toluenesulpho-nitro-7-oxy compound. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. 1-amino-2 : 6-dioxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid is obtained by converting 2 : 4-dioxynaphthalene into the nitroso compound, and treating the latter with sodium bisulphite. o-Oxyazo dyes are produced by coupling the above-described 6- or 7-acidyloxynaphthalene-1 : 2-diazo-oxide-4-sulphonic acids with 1-aryl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolones; the products dye wool in orange to brown shades changed towards red by after-chroming. The following components are specified: p-toluenesulphonic or benzoic ester of 7 - oxynaphthalene - 1 : 2-diazo-oxide-4-sulphonic acid, and 1-phenyl-, 1-p-nitrophenyl-, or 1-a -naphthyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone.
