Abstract

221,403. Bina, F. C., and Barrey, F. F. Dec. 27, 1923. Pencil holders.-In a pencil holder the propelling-mechanism is supported independently of the barrel and cap by means of a nozzle detachably secured to the front end of the barrel and through which the lead is propelled by rotating the barrel relativelv to the nozzle. The rear end of the barrel, which is formed of a plain tube 2, is closed by a screw cap 5 to provide, if desired, a receptacle for refills. Screwing into the front end of the barrel is a flanged part 6 of of the nozzle, to which is secured the lower end of a coiled wire or flat strip of metal 7. Rotatably mounted on the spiral 7 is a slotted tube 8 secured to the pointed section 9 of the nozzle, which is rotatable relatively to the part 6, the tube 8 being prevented from downward movement through the spiral by a shoulder or a washer 14. The lead propeller 10, which may be in the form of a piece of wire, or of a tube split at the front end to grip the lead, is slidably mounted in the tube 8, and is provided at its upper end with two lugs 12, 13 projecting through the slot in the tube between adjacent coils of the spiral 7. The pointed section 9 of the nozzle may be split to grip the lead.
