Pencil-holders; erasers.-In a pencil-holder of the type having a lead-propeller actuated by a spiral of wire or a strip of material wound to form a screw-thread, the spiral is supported in a relatively-rotatable tube arranged within the outer casing and provided with a longitudinal slot into which the projection on the leadpropeller extends through the coils of the spiral. As shown, the spiral 2 is secured at its rear end to a rod 6 extending through a nut 7 and secured to a rotatable. operating- head 5. The casing is formed in two parts 4, 14 connected together by a screw-threaded nipple 13, to which the supporting tube 3 for the spiral is secured. A flange 8 is formed on the rod 6, and is arranged to lie between the nut 7 and the end of the tube 3. The lead-propeller 9 comprises a length of wire having its rear end bent at right angles to pass through the coils of the spiral into a slot in the tube 3. A supporting and guiding tube 12 for the lead is secured centrally in the pointed end of the casing, and is split and tapered to provide a grip for the lead. The annular space left in the part 14 serves as a receptacle for refils. The operating-head 5 may be provided with a tip or cap of erasing- material.
