Abstract
221,009. Lamplough, F. June 1, 1923. Charging and discharging.-In apparatus for the distillation of shale and solid fuels comprising a plurality of steam-jacketed tubular retorts the material is fed into the top retort and discharged from the bottom one by similar devices each comprising a casing 15, Fig. 4, having inlet and outlet apertures 16, 17 and containing a drum 18 having apertures 19, 20 so disposed that they may both be covered by the casing as in Fig. 5. On rotation of a spindle 24 by a wheel 31 the drum 18 is given a combined motion of reciprocation and oscillation, so that when being charged its port 19 registers with aperture 20, and when being discharged its port 20 registers with aperture 17.
