Moulding wheel tyres.-A cushion tyre having one or more circumferential air-spaces 3 is vulcanized to a metal foundation-band 1 which is formed with small spaced. apertures a in register with the air space or spaces in the tyre. The band 1 is preferably formed with a groove 4 along the line (or lines) of the holes a. In building-up the tyre, the holes a are plugged with plaster of Paris &c. 5, a segmental core 6 of glucose and sand such as that described in Specification 217,217 (or other material capable of subsequent disintegration) is arranged over the row of holes a, the core sections enclosed by a rubber band 7, and the tyre body 2 assembled thereover. After vulcanization, the plugs 5 are removed and the core withdrawn by the injection of water. The tyre body 2 may be previously moulded to shape, or may be calendered on to the foundation.
