Abstract
218,195. Jensen, C. A., (Buckeye Steel Castings Co.). Dec. 17, 1923. Couplings, automatic, convertible to non-automatic.-In an automatic coupling having a pivoted knuckle and a coupling pin carried by the free end of the knuckle which secures a chain for coupling with a hook type coupling, a permanent connection is made between the pin and the automatic coupler head, which prevents loss, and permits only a limited withdrawal of the pin. The free end of the knuckle 2 is partially bored through to receive the coupling pin 5, which is secured by a chain 8 connecting the top end with an eye 9 in the head of the knucklepivot-pin 3. The chain permits the pin 5 to be raised clear of gap 4 in the free end of the knuckle when disconnecting the chain 11, 13, 12 from the knuckle. A safety chain 15 attached to the coupler head and the middle link 13 of the chain prevents loss of the coupling chain when disconnected from the coupler head.
