Abstract
218,192. Guerrero, J. Dec. 5, 1923. Non-metallic elastic bodies and cores; tyre attachments to rims; tyres with rims enclosing air tubes.-In tyres having rigid edges secured by shoulders on the wheel rim, and an intermediate flexible portion, the edges 8 are of hard vulcanized rubber, reinforced by wires 9, the intermediate base portion 5 of good quality rubber to allow stretching, and' the body 7 of inferior quality. The tread may have lateral recesses 13. The edges are held in grooved lateral flanges 3 by pins 15 passing through the flanges and inside the wires 9, the flanges being upstanding to provide an air-space 6 between the tyre and the felly 2. In a modification, the wires 9 are of flat form provided with internally screwed bosses, screws which enter the bosses being used in place of the pins 15. The space 6 also contains an air tube, the base of the tyre having depending lips to prevent the air tube being nipped in the corners between the tyre base and the side flanges.
