Abstract
213,381. Young, H. S. Feb. 7, 1923. Skid.-An emergency brake for vehicles cornprises a curved plate l slidable in a fixed guide n disposed beneath the mudguard s and adapted to be moved so as to bring one or other of the ends beneath the wheel w of the vehicle by the actuation of a radial arm k connected to the plate by a block o which extends through a slot formed in the upper side of the guide n. The arms k of the brakes of a pair of wheels are turned simultaneously by a transverse rock shaft g cranked at f for connection to a hand lever and carrying at each end a segmental rack h geared to a pinion j on the arm. The movement of the mechanism when the brake is applied is cushioned by springs m arranged for engagement by the block o on a curved rod fixed to the guide n.
