Abstract

349,420. Motor vehicle steering-gear. BœLOW, A., 21, Derfflingerstrasse, Stettin, Germany. Nov. 29, 1930, No. 36001. [Class 79 (v).] In motor vehicle steering-gear of the kind having a spring coupling between the worm gear and the rocker shaft, the springs of the coupling are made to act on the rocker shaft through the medium of levers mounted on the worm wheel. In the construction shown the worm wheel a carries levers d pivoted at o and acted upon by springs c mounted on pins b fixed to the worm wheel. The levers act on lugs i fixed to the rocker-shaft g and their ends f bear against the shaft and act as brakes so as to retard relative movement between the worm wheel and the shaft. The steering movements of the worm wheel are imparted to the shaft g by the springs and levers without any material compression of the springs. Reaction of the road wheels through the drag link m and rocker arm h is transmitted by the lugs i to the levers and absorbed by the springs. The outward movement of the levers is limited by the pins b.
