Air supply for combustion; grates'; open fire-places.-In fire-places and ranges of the kind in which air for combustion passes along a controlled passage 8 to a cavity 6 containing the ash-pan 13, the ash-pan is removed through the opening made by removing the grate 5, thus avoiding the necessity of providing any further opening and ensuring that the whole of the air is drawn from the external atmosphere.
