Abstract

209,631. McLachlan, C. D. March 7, 1923. Winches.-A winch comprises the arrangement and combination of all the parts hereinafter described. Two drums on parallel shafts are geared to a common spur wheel 4 on a shaft carrying a worm wheel 3 driven from a non-reactive worm shaft 5. The worm shaft is revolved directly by one handle 7 or through mitre gearing from a through shaft 10 carrying handles 8, 9. The worm shaft also carries a combined fly-wheel and brake disc 6, the brake strap being controlled by the adjustably-weighted hand-lever 14. Pawl-andratchet mechanism is fitted between the worm wheel and its shaft to enable the shaft 2 to be rotated directly for raising light loads by a handle attached to the part 19. The winch is adapted for paying out two cables at equal rates, as for example in boat-lowering apparatus.
