Abstract
631,293. Hand control for electric winches. POLLARD & CO., Ltd., E., and HUNTER, D. G. Sept. 20, 1947, No. 25654: [Class 78 (v)] An emergency hand gear for use with the electric winding drum 15 of a lift or hoist comprises a gear wheel 2 which forms part of the winding machine and drives the drum; and a set of additional gear wheels 3, 4, 5 with a driving handle 6 forming a unit or units readily detachable from the machine when hand driving is not required, the gear wheel 2 not hindering the free rotation of the drum. As shown, handle 6 drives the drum 15 through worm 5, worm wheel 4, pinion 3, and spur wheel 2 fixed to the drum. Handle 6 together with gears 5, 4, 3 form a unit detachably secured to frame 1 by screws 7 passing through bosses 9 on the frame. The bosses 9 and bearing hole 10 for the shaft of pinion 3 are formed on both sides of the frame as shown so that the handle may be operated conveniently on either side. When the gears are detached, Fig. 2, a cover plate 11 may be secured in its place by screws passing through the same bosses 9, and on the cover plate is formed a lug 12 which operates a contact 8 in the circuit of the electric driving motor so that the circuit is made when the cover plate is fixed and is broken when the cover plate is removed, thus preventing the simultaneous use of electric and hand driving. The device may be applied to a gearless lift.
