Abstract
Apparatus for screening water comprising a rotating drum made up of axially spaced rings 3, between which water flows to the drum interior, and a fixed cleaner (7) whose teeth 8 project between the rings to remove debris. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Apparatus for mechanical purification of water
The present invention relates to an apparatus for purification or cleaning of water, comprising a comb or rake and a cleaner for the comb or rake.
For mechanical water purification installations have hitherto been known comprising a fixedly arranged, flat rake and a rake cleaner displaceable along the flat rake. The rake cleaners are, for example, adapted as a gripper carriage or as a rake lifting mechanism.
Apart from the fact that some rake cleaners are already themselves of quite extensive structure, further diverse components are provided for their operation thus effecting travelling, lifting, lowering, opening and closing movements.
Known water purification installations are structurally very costly, requiring much space and seen as a whole are from a total aspect very costly.
An object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for mechanical water purification comprising a rake and a rake cleaner and which is distinguished by being more economic.
According to the present invention there is provided apparatus for mechanical purification of water comprising a comb or rake and a comb or rake cleaner, characterised by the feature that the rake cleaner is rigidly arranged and the rake is mounted so as to be rot'atable passed the rake cleaner.
The invention provides a mechanical water purification device which is distinguished by few components, simple and compact method of construction, minimum maintenance and simple operation.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is provided in which the rake comprises a frame with a plurality of annular discs or rings, which are interdigitated or engaged with the teeth of the rake cleaner.
In a further development of the invention it is favourable for the approach side of the rake to be substantially curved outwardly. The floatation material is thus able to readily move along the rake cleaner and slip thereoff.
The invention will be described further by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a section through the water purification apparatus; and
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line A-A of Fig. 1.
In the drawings a comb or rake 1 is illustrated comprising a frame 2 carrying a plurality of disc rings 3. The frame 2 comprises a plurality of spokes 4, spacing members 5 and a drive shaft 6. The rake 1 is rotatable in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. 2. Nu meral 7 denotes a stationary, rigid rake cleaner which in its front or leading region has a toothing 8 which interdigitates or engages with the rings 3 of the rake 1. The rake cleaner 7 is provided with an approach side 9 which extends diagonally or inclinedly to the direction of rotation of the rake 1 and outwardly curved somewhat. The rake cleaner 7 is located and retained by an arm 10 and an annular bottom flange or take-off edge 11 of a cylindrical housing 12.
The arrows provided in Fig. 1 show the flow course of the water to be purified and the purified water. If any floatation material has settled anywhere against the rake 1, it is carried along by rotating rake 1 to the rake cleaner and discharged thereby by being carried away over the surface 9.
1. Apparatus for mechanical purification of water comprising a comb or rake and a comb or rake cleaner, characterised by the feature that the rake cleaner is rigidly arranged and the rake is mounted so as to be rotatable passed the rake cleaner.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 in which the rake comprises a frame with a plurality of flat rings which are in interdigitated relationship with the rake cleaner.
3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2, in which the approach side of the rake cleaner extends diagonally to the direction of rotation of the rake and is outwardly curved.
4. Apparatus for mechanical water purification substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
