Abstract

Rollers, rods, tubes, and the like, treating; wheels.-The grinding-wheel of a centreless grinding-machine is provided at its leading edge c with a thickness b of vulcanized rubber, shellac, fibre, or other non-abrasive material, whereby the work has imparted to it an initial rotation as it approaches the effective part a of the wheel, and the formation of flats on the work is avoided. The non-abrasive layer may be vulcanized to the wheel, or may be secured thereto by an adhesive. Fig. 2 shows a wheel adapted to grind with its flat face and with the work fed towards the axis; the layer b may be applied to the inner peripheral edge of the wheel for outwards feed, or at both peripheral edges for feed inwards and outwards. The wheel shown in Fig. 6 is adapted for peripheral grinding; the layer also may be employed with composite wheels arranged for coarse grinding and for fine grinding.
