Abstract

Trueing rotating tools.-The periphery of a grinding-wheel composed of carborundum &c. bonded by a material that is capable of a change of form under pressure, and intended more particularly for grinding screw-threads, is formed, or trued up after wear, by rolling thereon, under pressure, a tool the shape of which is a counterpart to the required grinding-surface. The tool may be in the form of a disk carried by a pivoted arm, or, as shown in Fig. 4, it may be a screwthreaded roller B, either the roller or the grinding- disk A being mounted for axial movement. In another arrangement, the disk is rolled upon a bar grooved to the required shape. Figs. 5 and 6 show a modification in connexion with the grinding of the teeth of wheels; one or more pinions F to be ground are secured upon a mandrel B having its surface grooved to correspond to the pinion: the disk is trued by rolling it along the mandrel.
