Rollers and roller heads.-A drag is imposed on the sliver or roving in a roller head of the kind described in Specifications 17699/14, 182,249, and 182,507, by means of a plate made with two parts adapted to rest upon the roving over two or more intermediate rollers disposed on either side of a pair of drawing-rollers. The plate may be replaced by a pair of connected rollers; or a combination of a plate with a single roller may be used. The front part 30 of the plate has enlarged ends 31 which press on the roving over an arc of the intermediate roller 7, and is pivotally connected with the back part comprising a T-shaped member having enlarged ends 35 adapted to coact with the intermediate roller 8. The shank 34 extends between reduced parts of the drawing- rollers 2, 5, and a projection 45 prevents forward movement of the plate. The rear ends may be turned down and slotted to form roving guides 37, and guides 42, 43 are formed in the forward ends. The intermediate rollers are positively driven by gearing from the drawing-rollers 2, 3, and their position may be adjusted by a screwshaft 60. A double roving may be passed through a pair of guides in a traverse bar 70 and united by the guide slots 42. When the plate is replaced by a pair of rollers, the distance between the rollers may be adjusted by a screw and slot connection, and a traverse bar is formed with roving guides adapted to impart to the rollers the motion of the bar.
