Abstract

An electrical connector having a bayonet type releasable connection between complementary receptacle and plug connector members 12, 14 include a rotatable coupling ring 16 carried by the plug member 14 and engageable with the receptacle member 12 for mating the connector members 12, 14 and holding the contacts in electrical engagement and a resiliently biassed detent ring 40 disposed between the coupling ring 16 and the plug member 14. The ring 40 includes a sleeve portion 42 about the plug member and a radially protruding annular flange 44, the detent ring being keyed to the coupling ring 16 for rotation therewith and axial movement relative thereto. An axially deflectable spring wave washer 50 is sandwiched between the radially protruding annular flange 44 of the detent and an annular shoulder on the inside of the coupling ring to effect the resilient biassing of the detent ring. A detent means is disposed between the annular flange of the detent ring and an annular portion of the plug. The detent means includes at least one radial slot in the annular flange 44 of the detent ring 40 forming a detent groove 62 for receiving a radial detent roller 58 carried by the radial portion 32 of the plug member 14. <IMAGE>
