Abstract
201,450. Cowper, J. S. Sept. 30, 1922. Compound or composite blocks.-Paving blocks comprise a shell or frame of rubber &c. enclosing or surrounding an inset, core or panel of wood or cement so as to form a resilient bed upon the road base. The rubber block a, Figs. 5 and 6, is formed with a cavity b to receive the inset d which may be interlocked with an adjoining inset by a packing-piece f; or dovetail joints may be formed between the block and the inset. The blocks mav be interlocked by means of projections on the one engaging recesses on the other, or rubber tie rods may be used. The guttering and kerbing may also be formed of rubber blocks, and the adjacent sides of the paving blocks may be formed with a layer of plastic material. Rubber sheets may be interposed between the road surface and the blocks; or a rubber base s, Fig. 21, may support a core-block t with a rubber surround w.
