Flooring and paving slabs. - In roadways, floors, and the like, slabs of rubber A have projecting ribs A<1> with widened bases A<2>, adapted to be gripped between adjacent rows of concrete or wood base blocks B during assembly, the base blocks being provided with grooves B<1> along their longitudinal edges to provide housings for the ribs. The longitudinal edges of the rubber slabs bridge the junction between adjacent rows of base blocks, and the ends of the slabs either coincide with or overlap the junction between the ends of the lower blocks. The rubber strips are formed by " forcing," and the base blocks may be provided with grooves B<1> also on the undersurface so as to be reversible.
