Abstract

Thermionic oscillation generators. - Short-wave oscillations are generated by the diode circuit shown in Fig. 1 or by the triode circuit shown in Fig. 2. In Fig. 1, the parallel wires LL are connected to the highpotential anode G and the filament F, and a negatively - charged metal cylinder may surround the exterior of the bulb. In Fig. 2, the grid G is connected to the positive end of the high-tension battery B, whilst the plate P is only slightly positive relatively to the filament. The electrodes G and F are connected across a common condenser C in parallel with the battery B. The parallel leads L, L connecting the electrodes to the condenser are adjustable in length, as shown, according to the wavelength to be generated. The battery leads, instead of being joined directly to the condenser plates, may be connected to the potential nodes existing on the wires L, L, these being found by trial. Alternatively, the condenser C may be inserted between the plate P and filament F, or between the plate P and grid G, the battery leads to the condenser being correspondingly adjusted.
