Abstract
198,720. White, J. F. Jan. 6, 1922. Passing materials through fluids.-A machine for scouring textile fibres such as hanks of yarn comprises a vat 1 with a number of pairs of driven smooth rollers 5, 6 arranged progressively lower from the ends to the middle of the vat to feed the fibnes without the use of other conveyer devices. The rollers are spaced apart by adjustable means 9 so that the fibre is squeezed to its normal volume before immersion while passing between a pair of rollers, and is released between successive pairs of rollers. Superfluous liquor is removed from the fibres after they have passed through the last pair of squeezing-rollers by adjustable nip rollers 13. A pump 16 is provided for circulating the liquor in the vat, a valve-operated outlet 2 allowing sludge or dirt to be removed from the vat. According to the Provisional Specification, the rollers may be rubbed; pairs of rollers may be arranged in vertical or horizontal rows, a guide-roller being placed at the opposite ends of each alternate row to feed the fibre to the next row; and a number of such machines may be arranged in sequence. Specification 2311/89 is referred to.
