Abstract

Fire - bars and grates.- In a furnace provided with transverse firebars a, Fig. 2, arranged t o form longitudinal passages b discharging through fanshape slots c between the bars, the bars near the firebridge are increased in height and the slots c deliver a i r oppositely or transversely to the furnace draught. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the bars at the rear of the grate are in the form of a block f with vertical passages c between the bars and passages g connecting the longitudinal passages. The bottom of the fire-bars a may be provided with inclined slots h, Fig. 4, through which steam or air may be supplied.
