Abstract

195,225. Sheard, J. T., and Rennison, F. T. Feb. 10, 1922. Gaseous-fuel furnaces. - A gas-fired furnace comprises a central combustion and heating chamber c, Figs. 2 and 3, in which is placed the material to be heated or a crucible or other vessel containing metal to be melted, and a series of recuperators for the air and gas arranged symmetrically around the chamber. The gas and air are supplied under natural or forced draught to inlet passages l, m, respectively and thence through the heating-flues h, j, the air and gas finally entering the chamber c through oppositely disposed gas ports d and air ports e. The combustion products leave the chamber c through ports f and pass through flues g to the out-lets k on opposite sides of the furnace. In a modification, the gas-heating flues are made shorter than the air flues to correspond with the proportions of gas and air supplied to the chamber c. The bottom of the chamber c may be provided with openings to allow for the escape of slag or other material
