Abstract

Liquid and gascous fuel furnaces. - A furnace for heating rivets and the like comprises a fuel chamber a communicating with a heating chamber c by a central port b having a lip b<1>. Fuel is fed down the shoot a<1> and air heated in the double walled chimney f is led by valved conduits j' to the ash-pit l forming a combustible gas. This burns at the port b with hot air supplied by the conduits j' and passage k to openings k<1>. Flames are deflected by the dished crown g<1> upon the goods in the chamber c which is divided into communicating compartments, Fig. 5, and communicates by valved ports e with a preliminary heating chamber d which has off-takes to the chimney. If gaseous or liquid fuel is used, burners are placed below the port b. In a modification, the air for combustion is heated in flues in the furnace walls, the fuel chamber is not placed centrally, and inlets are provided for an additional supply of hot air below the burner.
