Abstract

193,268. Rayner, G. H. T., and Rayner, P. Feb. 11, 1922. Fixing by sockets and tongs; with wedges.- The detachable means for securing shovels, forks, spades, and the like, to tubular metal handles as described in Specifications 160,006 and 163,002,. are employed for attaching the tools to wooden handles. The invention is limited to the fixing means described in the Specifications referred to, which comprise a double metal socket piece as f, formed with a socket F in which the wooden handle is secured, and with a tapered or conical part F<2>. As shown in Fig. 4, a shovel a is fixed in the part F<2> bv a wedge c as described in Specification 160,006. As shown in Fig. 8, the part F<2> receives a tapered tang a' with a flattened end as described in Specification 163,002.
