Abstract
357,006. D-handles. COLUMBUS HANDLE & TOOL CORPORATION, Columbus, Indiana, U.S.A. Nov. 17, 1930, No. 34613. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1929. [Class 61 (i).] The switch portion of a handle for forks, spades and the like, is provided with a space between the two branches at the point of their juncture. Fig. 1 shows the handle made from sheet metal bent into tubular form and having two separate arms 18, 19 which abut at their lower ends to form a tapered socket for the wooden haft ; the seams are welded and the meeting edges of the metal at the juncture of the arms are turned up to form a head 23 for driving the crutch on to the end of the haft. A hand grip 16 is secured between the arms by a rivet 17 fashioned eccentrically to prevent rotation. The crutch may also be of cast metal instead of sheet and is then made as shown in Fig. 3.
