Abstract

Spring surfaces. - A seating or reclining surface suitable for motorcars, chairs, couches, mattresses and beds, comprises an outer covering b divided by independent division walls d into compartments at one or more levels, rubber tubes or inflatable bodies e being introduced through holes into each compartment, as in Fig. 3; or the inflatable body inserted in an outer covering bx may be divided into separately-inflatable compartments ex as in Fig. 9. The covering b is attached to a frame a to which is attached a wooden bottom a<1>. The front and top of the surface may be stuffed as at c<1>, c. Some of the bodies e may be arranged at right-angles to the others and the whole seating surface may be contained in a wooden frame which supports a flexible wire surface resting on the pneumatic surface. Spiral springs may be attached to the bottom of the frame a.
