Abstract

Lighting systems. - An electric lighting system is provided with a " dimmer " comprising a variable resistance and a switch, normally short-circuiting the resistance, which is adapted to be opened magnetically, pneumatically or mechanically to insert the resistance. The variable resistance consists of a resistance coil a, and a contact c adapted to be rotated by a handle d. A contact i engages a contact j when a magnet n is energized by the closure of a switch m and the resistance a is cut out of the lamp circuit f. When the switch m is opened the contact k engages the contact c and the resistance a is inserted in the lamp circuit.
