Abstract
488,357. Electromagnetic switches. VEREINIGTE SPIELWARENFABRIKEN A. FORTNER & J. HAFFNER'S NACHFOLGER GES. Jan. 4, 1938, No. 204. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1937. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XV] A toy electric railway vehicle carries an electromagnet and a switch drum for controlling the direction of travel and for lighting appropriate lamps so that a red light is at the rear and a white lamp at the front. Actuation of an external controlling switch causes an electromagnet 8 to attract an armature 9 carrying an arm 10, Fig. 3, which rotates a ratchet wheel 15 one tooth at a time through a lever 12 with a two-armed pawl 16, and thus turns a switch drum 17 having contacts engaging contact arms 19<1>, 19<2>, 19<3> and two diametrically opposite eccentrics engaging further contact arms 24, 25 in turn. Release of the control switch de-energizes the magnet 8 and allows the armature to fall back. When contact arm 24 is engaged, lamp circuit I is closed and the vehicle runs to the right. Operation of the control switch cuts off the current, and further operation. closes circuit II and the vehicle runs to the left. The circuits I and II are provided with plug contacts to allow vehicles to be connected.
