Abstract

189,878. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Sept. 9, 1921. Mercury switches.-An electromagnetic mercury switch has an operating-winding 19, a holding winding 29 and a core 25 which, when lifted by current in the winding 19, tilts a vessel 27 containing mercury to open the circuit between contacts 17', 18' and make connection between contacts 18', 22 thereby closing a low potential circuit through the holding winding 29. The movement of the core may also operate a double-pole switch 30.
